We’re a non-profit run entirely by volunteers. Artel Gallery was founded in 1993 to foster appreciation for art in its purest form without concern for commercial marketability. Its mission is to provide the Northwest Florida region with a continuous forum for quality experimental and contemporary art exhibitions and programs dedicated to the enrichment and education of the community.
Whether by challenging artists to interpret themes or by providing educational programs, Artel Gallery seeks to evoke a creative response and inspire artists to create work that is innovative and provocative in technique, media and/or content. Neither a co-op or a retail gallery, Artel is an experimental institution, the only one of its kind in Northwest Florida.

“Artel is an all-volunteer organization and depends on the generosity of those who have a few hours a month to give. We would love to welcome you as a Gallery Sitter, reception/lecture helper or special event volunteer. Also, we would love to know of any special skills you have which you would be willing to donate to the gallery.
Gallery Sitters: Our most important need is Gallery Sitters. Artel is open Tuesday through Saturday from 10 – 4. Shifts are from 10 – 1 or 1 – 4. We require a minimum three-hour commitment per month (1 sitting/month), although you are welcome to do more if convenient for you.
A 45-minute training session is usually conducted at the beginning of your first shift. You then will need to remain to finish your shift. Someone is always available by phone if you need assistance.
Volunteers may receive a free annual membership after only 30 hours of gallery sitting or other volunteer work. The 30 hours must be in the same calendar year. Gallery Sitters who are already members, can receive one free entry to any juried show (except Cinco Banderas) by Gallery sitting for 15 hours within any continuous six-month period. The free entry fee can only be used within a one-year period starting from the date you acquired the 15 hours, and you must be a current Artel member when you use it. Additional hours may be earned for other duties, such as assisting at art drop offs, receptions, educational programs and other special events.
Artel Gallery programs are funded in part by Escambia County, the Florida Department of State Division of Cultural Affairs, Florida Arts Council, National Endowment for the Arts, Great Gulf Coast Arts Festival and ACE. Artel Gallery thanks these organizations for their generosity and support.
Artel Gallery does not and shall not discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion (creed), gender, gender expression, age, national origin (ancestry), disability, marital status, sexual orientation or military status in any of its activities or operations. These activities include, but are not limited to, hiring and firing of staff, selection of volunteers and vendors and provision of services. We are committed to providing an inclusive and welcoming environment for all members of our staff, volunteers, subcontractors, vendors and clients.
Artel Gallery is wheelchair accessible. An entrance with a power-assisted lift is located at the back of the gallery. For questions or assistance, please approach any Artel volunteer. Motorized wheelchairs are permitted. Restrooms are wheelchair accessible and are located on the first floor to the right of the main gallery entrance.
