Artel is an all-volunteer organization and depends on the generosity of those who have a few hours a month to give. We would love to welcome you as a gallery sitter, or reception, lecture or drop off helper. Also, we would love to know of any special skills you have which you would be willing to donate to the gallery. 

Our most important need is gallery sitters. Artel is open Tuesday through Saturday from 10 – 4. Shifts are from 10 – 1 or 1 – 4. We require a minimum three-hour commitment per month, although you are welcome to do more if convenient for you.

You are not obligated to take the same shift or day each month. For example, you may sit on Tuesday morning one month and on Thursday afternoon the next, as long as you fulfill your three hours per month. We prefer that you sign up for your next shift each time you sit or you may sign up in advance for several weeks or months.

Gallery sitting requires a 45-minute training which is usually done at the beginning of your first shift. You then would remain to finish your shift. Someone is always available by phone if you need assistance.

By volunteering you may earn credits toward free membership renewals or entry fees. (See below.)

We also need occasional help with receptions, drop off weekends and special events.

Volunteer Benefits

Volunteers may receive a free annual membership after only 30 hours of gallery sitting or other volunteer work. The 30 hours must be in the same calendar year.If you are already a member and wish to use your hours toward free entry fees for juried shows, sit the gallery for 15 hours within any continuous six-month period and receive one free entry to any juried show (except Cinco Banderas).

The free entry fee can only be used within a one-year period starting from the date you acquired the 15 hours, and you must be a current Artel member when you use it.

Additional hours may be earned for other duties, such as assisting at art drop offs, receptions, educational programs and other special events.
